A 68-year-old resident of Vallejo, Marvin Mutch, who was convicted for the murder of a 13-year-old girl in Union City in 1975, has been apprehended after authorities discovered child pornography, illegal narcotics, and a loaded firearm at his residence, as reported by the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.

Mutch had previously served 41 years of a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the murder of Cassie Riley before being released on parole in 2016.

According to the sheriff’s office, Mutch was taken into custody during a search warrant execution at his home on Thursday, where several electronic devices were confiscated for forensic examination.

“The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation focused on illegal activities related to child sexual abuse material (CSAM),” stated the Solano County Sheriff’s Office in an official release.

Mutch has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of child pornography, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition as a convicted felon, possession of a firearm by a violent felon, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.

He is currently being held at the Solano County Jail with bail set at $300,000. The sheriff’s office indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming as the case develops.

This investigation remains active.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office urges the public to recognize the severity of crimes involving CSAM and encourages anyone with information regarding this case or similar incidents to reach out to their tip line at 707-784-1963. All submitted tips can remain confidential.
