SACRAMENTO — Jaylen Jordan has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison following his conviction for the first-degree murder of Ja’von Phillips. The jury found Jordan guilty on December 4, 2024, and Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White delivered the sentence in a hearing presided over by Deputy District Attorney Colin Stephenson.
The case dates back to October 18, 2020, when police responded to reports of gunshots at Phillips’ home. Officers found Phillips with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head. Witnesses described a burgundy sedan from which a male exited the passenger side, fired multiple shots at Phillips, then fled the scene.
Investigators identified Jordan as the shooter, with additional evidence placing him at the scene. Communications recovered during the investigation included a message Jordan sent referencing the murder.
The verdict and sentencing mark the conclusion of a case that has spanned nearly five years.
