Two men have been sentenced in federal court for trafficking eight kilograms of methamphetamine from Dallas to the Joplin area.
Juan Alvarado-Alvarado, 45, a Mexican national, was sentenced to 192 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release. He has two prior felony convictions for illegally reentering the U.S. after deportation.
Jesus Sanchez, 34, of Joplin, received a 132-month sentence and five years of supervised release.
The pair was stopped by Newton County deputies on May 25, 2022, where officers discovered the meth. Sanchez later confessed they had traveled to Dallas to purchase the drugs.
The case involved cooperation among local, state, and federal agencies and was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
