Approximately 40 Nepali nationals who were deported from the United States are expected to arrive in Kathmandu today.
Anjan Neupane, the spokesperson for the immigration office at Tribhuvan International Airport, confirmed that a chartered flight carrying these deportees is anticipated to land at around 4:15 PM.
Since the commencement of President Donald Trump’s second term, Nepali immigration authorities report that a total of 140 Nepalis have been deported from the United States. Notably, eight individuals were similarly deported via chartered flight in early March. During questioning by the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police, some deportees disclosed that they had entered the United States by illegally traversing the borders of twelve different nations.
The Trump administration has implemented a stringent policy against undocumented immigrants since January 22, shortly after his inauguration for a second term. Under the guidance of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the United States has persisted in detaining and deporting undocumented migrants, including those from Nepal.
Data from the Department of Immigration reveals the following annual statistics for Nepali deportations from the US: 38 in 2021, 24 in 2022, 25 in 2023, and 53 in 2024.
ICE has been actively apprehending individuals who had previously received final deportation orders but had not yet been detained.
