Two men were hospitalized after a broad daylight shooting on Sacramento’s Broadway near 28th Street Sunday afternoon, according to police.
Officers responded around 12:30 p.m. to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound, who was immediately transported to the hospital. A second victim reportedly self-transported to the hospital shortly after.
Both victims had been riding in a black Toyota Camry, which sustained at least seven bullet holes on the driver’s side, police confirmed.
- A man in his 20s is in critical condition.
- A man in his 40s is expected to survive, authorities said.
Eyewitnesses reported that a masked suspect fired multiple rounds from a separate vehicle before fleeing the scene.
“One car pulled up next to the black car and a guy with a mask hung out the window and shot about eight rounds and then took off,” said one witness, who declined to be identified.
Despite witness accounts suggesting a drive-by shooting, the Sacramento Police Department has not officially categorized it as such, stating the circumstances remain under investigation.
Coincidentally, just hours earlier, a high-speed police chase ended at the same intersection when a vehicle crashed into a Smart & Final store, shattering its window. Police have not said whether the incidents are related.
As of now, no suspect information has been released. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sacramento Police Department.
