Anti-rent-control dollars in Sacramento City Council coffers

Campaign contributions from explicitly anti-rent-control political action groups to Sacramento’s city council members and Mayor Darrell Steinberg for their 2018 and 2020 campaigns near $54,000, according to public filings of donations exceeding $100.

Such organizations include the California Apartment Association PAC, the Rental Housing Association of Sacramento Valley and the California Real Estate PAC – California Association of Realtors. The spreadsheets below display them in red, with an “r” in the color code column for sorting purposes.

Council members also received thousands in campaign donations from real estate developers and property managers with a vested interest in maintaining a rent-control-free Sacramento. The spreadsheets display the ones VOICES: River City has identified in orange, with an “o” in the color code column for sorting purposes.

Spreadsheets for Jay Schenirer and Rick Jennings’s 2018 campaigns are forthcoming, but their contributions from the CAA and CRE ($11,200 each) have been included in the total above. Allen Warren and Larry Carr have not yet started their 2020 campaigns, according to filings.

In an effort to track campaign donations from other lobbying interests, campaign donations from law enforcement and related entities are displayed in blue, with a “b” in the color code column. Donations from cannabis-related lobbying interests are displayed in green, with a “g” in the color code column.
